The Big Swish

Last night was the return of The Big Swish organised by The Big Wardrobe and stylist Lupe Castro. This time it was held at Jewel, Piccadilly Circus and had a lovely ski theme to get everyone ready to hit the slopes for the season.

The event began with some entertainment from the buff Soho Gym boys, who really got the girls moving!

Fox and Squirrel were also offering bespoke mapping of ethical London and Dermalogica were giving free skin advice for all the lovely ladies who attended.

It was all girls a go go. Swish!

Melvita is launching exciting new products

Spending the day learning more about the Melvita products and trying out the new ranges was a day well spent this Wednesday at the launch. Benard Chevilliant, the founder of Melvita, even attended to speak about the products and kindly posed with Lupe Castro for a quick photo.

Melvita has one of the widest ranges of certified organic beauty products in the world, which has just grown larger with the introduction of four (yes four) new ranges available in the coming months. These exciting new products include an anti-aging “Naturalift” range, a cleansing and toning “Bouquet Floral” range, new Quintessentielle oils and a slimming range.

Most exciting was the slimming range using caffeine and two types of natural algae in the countering cream, firming oil and exfoliating cleansing bar all designed for you to target those troublesome areas. (Not to over share but my thighs and bum are in for some treatment.)

Pay a visit to their flagship store in St Martin’s Courtyard, Covent Garden for a skin consultation or check out the Melvita website www.melvita.com

Another gorgeous piece from Livia Firth

Committed ethical supporter Livia Firth has collaborated again with accessory brand Made to bring us this spectacular necklace. It's designed to be worn in many different ways though Livia herself has worn it at the Critic Choice Awards as a choker with the heart resting down the spine. Which, if I do say so, looks very sexy.

The materials are all locally sourced and produced in Made’s Nairobi workshop, which offers people a chance to learn new skills and work themselves out of poverty. This piece offers more then just a beautiful focal point of any outfit. It is supporting fair-trade and helping to break the circle of poverty in Africa.

At £55 you can buy this at Livia Firth’s own shop Eco Age in Chiswick or online at www.eco-age.com and www.made.uk.com

Calling all Fashionistas!

It’s a brand new year and the Christmas party season is a fleeting memory for most of us. January is the month for change, so The Big Swish is back in London offering you the chance to swap your least loved clothes for another girl’s gorgeous garments.

On January 27th, the capital’s Swishers will be heading to Jewel in Piccadilly Circus for an evening of clothes swapping and socialising. Bring along up to 15 items (all in good condition) and then wait to see what the evening brings. Who knows, next Christmas you might be gracing the party circuit in your favourite swished dress!

There’ll even be bespoke mapping of ethical London from Fox&Squirrel, free skin analysis from Dermalogica and the boys from Soho Gyms will be entertaining us!
Entry is £5 with VIP tickets costing £20.

WHEN: Thursday 27th January (20.30 start with drop off times 18.30-20.15)

WHERE: Jewel, 4-6 Glasshouse Street, London, W1B 5DQ

WHY: Let’s face it, January can be a bit dull so why not swap the old for the new and brighten up your wardrobe whilst you’re at it!

Tickets in advance are only £5.00
£7.50 on the door or
£20.00 for a VIP ticket (which includes a goody bag, annual membership to www.bigwardrobe.com (valued at £12.00), and a five-minute head start at the Swish.

Entice Spring

If you’re sick of the rainy weather - like me - then let shoe designer Hetty Rose brighten up these dull days. Her floral designs of the new ready to wear collection are sure to entice Spring a little closer.

Hetty Rose is known for bespoke hand made shoes with suited Japanese names for the designs such as Yuki and Nanami, as the materials used are vintage Japanese kimono fabrics. The new ready to wear collection offers the same quality and style as the bespoke service but between £180 and £205 depending on the design you choose. And there are five to choose from!

My favourite is the Mami design with a vintage kimono fabric in black and cream with peach flowers, a metallic pink heel and completed with an attractive bow. If you’re looking for something more practical but with a twist then check out the Haruka classic flat or Kiki court shoe.

Now available to order online at www.hettyrose.co.uk

Something Special

When I saw the Leblas Filigree Links rings I immediately thought they were stunning. I am quite in love with the pretty, intricate details. No wonder Sienna Miller is a fan of Leblas jewellery.

The contemporary designs by award-winning designer Arabel Lebrusan, are hand-made by a small group of craftsmen in Spain. These craftsmen are part of a tradition, using skills they have learnt through their parents and generations before them making these rings truly something special.

The rings come in four versions; silver, rose gold, yellow gold or black rhodium at £150 each, all with adjustable backs so they will always fit and can be cherished forever!
